Dailymakassar.id. MAKASSAR. In the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum held virtually, the Mayor of Makassar, Moh. Ramdhan “Danny” Pomanto, described how to manage waste banks in Makassar City.
Danny said that the management of waste banks in Makassar City was initially carried out from community participation in managing their own household waste problems.
“In the course of its development, the waste bank program was formed at the community unit (RW) level, there are 1000 waste banks, at the sub-district level there is a sectoral waste bank and at the city level there is a central waste bank which is managed by the UPTD of the Makassar Office of Environment,” Danny explained in in front of APEC participants.
UPTD will buy waste from the community, and the city government will prepare a budget to buy waste from the RW, sectoral and central waste bank units.
The Head of the UPTD Waste Bank, Sahar, said that what was interesting in this forum is Makassar Government’s innovation program in managing its waste bank.
“Interestingly, what the participants of this forum paid attention to is the Waste Bank innovation program through innovation of waste exchange for rice, gallon water and gas cylinders,” said Sahar.
In the forum, one of the speakers in the APEC Webinar explained five aspects of waste management starting from regulation, organization, financing and community empowerment and technology.
“Makassar has implemented it, it is a concern and a priority for us in waste management,” said Sahar again.
In this APEC forum, Danny also explained about the development of organic waste management which will later be developed through the Biodigister system into gas. [Ib]
